On Saturday, November 26th, the Boys & Girls Club of Hawthorne hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and a naming dedication of the new Positive Place Preschool building, located at 148 Maitland Avenue, Hawthorne. The facility was named after the late John A. Pasquale III. John was a dedicated supporter of the Boys & Girls Club and was a past recipient of the Man of the Year award presented by the Club. John also served his hometown on the Hawthorne Board of Education as a member for 13 years, the Commissioner of Public Works for 6 years and a Councilman for 4 years. He was a member of the Hawthorne Library Foundation, Hawthorne Kiwanis Club and a lifetime member of the Hawthorne PBA Local 200. John was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s RC Church, where he served on the Finance Committee. He was a member of the Paterson Elks and Old Timers Sports Club. John also served as a past President and Secretary of the All Wags Athletic Club in Paterson and served on the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center Governing Board. He had a passion for sports and working with children as he volunteered as a coach for the American Legion Post 187 baseball team for 15 years and was a football official for over 40 years for the New Jersey Football Officials Association.
The Boys & Girls Club of Hawthorne just completed this 8 month expansion project. The Club has expanded its preschool facility to better meet the needs of our community. This new facility will serve children from 6 weeks to 2 years old. What was once a family owned residence situated across the parking lot from the Boys & Girls Club of Hawthorne, is now a part of the Club campus, serving over 50 infants and toddlers.
